The number and variety of components that have been used to construct FI systems seem to have no limits. Therefore this section can offer only a narrow personal view, focused on basic building blocks. Components used for UV-VIS spectrophotometry, are given preference, since this detection is most widely used.
Yet other detection techniques, notably fluorescsence and chemiluminescence are gaining ground and therefore the reader is encouraged to consult Hansen’s Database for further information.
